3dMaxMedia Debuts Zuma, a real-time 3D Technology at YES Rock
Concert in Los Angeles
Los Angeles, CA -
Friday, June 23,
2000 - 3dMaxMedia debuted Zuma,
world's first real-time 3D graphics performance Engine during the rock
concert of the internationally known band, YES, held June 23, 2000 at the
Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. This technology radically shifts
the paradigm by which live-performance visuals are created and delivered.
High-end 3D graphic elements no longer have to be pre-rendered, as Zuma
enables 3D objects to be created in real-time and expressively manipulated
like an instrument. This was the first time ever, a rock concert
incorporated 3d animation into a performance.
To demonstrate
the power of Zuma, Jimmy Hotz and Rik Henderson of 3dMaxMedia, created the
3D visualization in real time using the control gestures while the music
being performed. This represents a significant historical first for 3D
visualization technology and allowed the expression of the visuals to be
as organic and live as the music-performance itself.
Jon
Anderson of the rock band YES, selected the well-known song "Gates of
Delirium" for this historical moment. The spectacular graphics created in
real-time by Zuma, were projected from high above the crowd, which
appeared on the stage like a living entity and which responded perfectly
and harmoniously with the music. It was a truly powerful experience and
the audience responded with an unusually long and heart-felt standing
ovation.
In support of the Yes Concert showcase
event Panasonic Broadcast Division provided their new 12000 Lumen DLP
Video projector thru Ecity Studios of Los Angeles. Paul Holman, an expert
environmental media designer, was responsible for the successful
deployment of this high-end projection technology. Zuma, was created in record time by an expert team led by Jimmy
Hotz, Dr. Vladimir Bulatov and Rik Henderson. 3dMaxMedia utilizes the core
3D engine developed by Wildtangent Inc. Srini Vasan, President & CEO
of 3dMaxMedia stated, " We are very pleased to position Zuma technology as
the next generation 3D visualization engine and we are truly excited about
the prospects of our technology".
Zuma
technology can be deployed in a host of other environments including large
performance venues, amusement parks, dance clubs, discotheques, personal
meditation spaces, religious gatherings and commercial hoardings. Zuma,
the ultimate music visualizer for Personal computers, can empower the
masses to create beautiful real-time 3d Visualizations on the fly that
respond to their favorite music from CD's, MIDI files, MP3's or directly
from the internet.
